In the heart of Reno, a new era is dawning for Nevada Football under the leadership of Coach Joey. As the new leader of the Wolfpack, Joey brings a bold vision and an unyielding commitment to transforming the team's fortunes. With a demanding schedule ahead and a renewed focus on grit and teamwork, Coach Joey is ready to roll the dice and lead the pack to new heights. We had the chance to sit down with Coach Joey to discuss his expectations for the upcoming season, the challenges he anticipates, and his unshakeable belief in the potential of his players. Plus, stay tuned for a surprise announcement, which is a Saturday Night Chronicle exclusive!
SNC: Coach, Coach! Do you have a moment to answer a few questions about the upcoming season?
Joey R.: Always for you!
SNC: The entire Wolfpack Nation is excited about the dawn of a new era. What are your expectations going into year 1?
Joey R.: First off, I’m very grateful to be here. I expect a lot of great things for the “Biggest little city in the world.” We have a lot of talent, so I’m aiming high, might take a few gambles, and double down when a good opportunity presents itself.
SNC: Now, just to clarify, you’re talking about the football team and not the fact that you will be living in a state with legalized gambling, correct?
Joey R.: Exactly. Spot on, Jake.
SNC: Thanks, Coach. The Mountain West is one of the more difficult conferences, and your OOC schedule is stacked with SMU, Oregon State, and Minnesota. How do you plan on navigating such a demanding schedule?
Joey R.: I’m going to trust my players. We have big names who have played at high levels. Chubba Purdy has played a lot of high-level ball, and we are excited to have him. I expect him to live up to the name and eat up those defenses. And don’t forget about Sean Dollars. That dude is gonna get paid. Watch out for him out of the backfield. Overall, though, we play as a team with a Wolfpack mentality.
SNC: Having gone 2-10 in 2023 and 2022 under a previous regime, of course, what kind of adjustments do you plan to improve the team’s record?
Joey R.: Well, for starters, I’ve been playing a lot of Madden to find those little quirks that can help. We’ve revamped our mentality and are ready to prove many people wrong. My advice: bet the over.
SNC: I know the journey leading to this point has been a challenge to say the least. How do you respond to those worried about your health in the Reno heat with only one kidney? Any concerns from you or your family that you may have made too many sacrifices to land this job and this console?
Joey R.: First off, fake news. No kidney was donated or sold. These are fake rumors attempting to undermine my authority amongst the kids. And no, the family fully supports me. I do have a baby on the way, so hopefully, that will give me that baby bump we need for the extra motivation down the stretch.
SNC: Hopefully, these fake rumors won’t impact your standing with current and future recruits. Last question for you, Coach: Thank you for your time. You’ve been out of the game for a while; what do you think will be the most significant adjustment for you coming from a previous generation to the new generation?
Joey R.: As always Jake, thanks for your time and hard-hitting questions. I could go on about team words that I couldn’t define like other coaches do but I won’t… I’ll just say this: I love football, with all my heart. Although the rumors now are fake, I’d be willing to sell my left testicle for a National Championship. I want my kids to know we give 100% every day. After that, what happens is what happens. All I ask is for maximum effort. And to the recruits thinking about joining the Wolfpack: Do you have what it takes? Do you have it in you to help build a national powerhouse? Every program starts somewhere. Right now, we are looking up.
SNC: Thank you again, Coach. Very vivid and descriptive.
