Interview with Coach Jacob of Coastal Carolina

Jake (Saturday Night Chronicles): Coach Jacob! Jake with Saturday Night Chronicles… do you have a moment to answer a few questions about the upcoming season?

Coach Jacob: Lmao hit me.

Jake: First year into the job, what do you think your biggest challenge will be?

Coach Jacob: I would compare us to the Brady-Belichick Patriots. Our biggest hurdle will be maintaining focus through the first 12 games on our schedule when the stakes are low. The season starts for us in December with the Sun Belt Conference championship; everything else is preseason. The only thing capable of beating the Chanticleers is the Chanticleers.

Jake: You have mentioned multiple times since your introductory press conference how you expect to be successful from day one. It’ll be a lot of fun watching the season progress. How do you respond to those saying you won’t make your conference championship, listing you 4th behind App State, JMU, and Marshall? Keeping in mind that this is 4th in your own division, coach.

Coach Jacob: All three of those schools have one thing in common—they aren’t brave enough to play on a teal field. We play on teal because we’re cocky, and we’re cocky because we win. Teal is for closers. Chanticleers by 100.

Jake: By 100 against who, coach? It's just you and me talking… They call the Sun Belt the Fun Belt. What are some things that you are looking forward to increasing the fun on the field with your team before the first game of the season?

Coach Jacob: It’s called the Fun Belt because it’s fun to take the belt to your opponents. All that we will be doing before the season is studying the playbook and grinding in the weight room.

Jake: Weight room perhaps?

Coach Jacob: No idea what you’re talking about.

Jake: My mistake. One final question for you, coach. I appreciate your time.

Coach Jacob: Always happy to help a fresh-faced young reporter.

Jake: Can we expect some alternate uniforms during this season to really help get the fans excited for the season?

Coach Jacob: In my first year at a new program, I won’t try to rock the boat too much. But with that being said, we may have a trick or two up our sleeve later this season, so keep an eye out.

Jake: Thank you, coach. Good luck with the upcoming season.
