Breaking news—well, not really, since someone else broke it before us—but Will No Last Name (we have recently learned that it is Will Cardin) is officially the new head coach of Sam Houston State. Yes, the same Sam Houston that’s been chilling comfortably at the bottom of Conference USA for a while now. He’s stepping into the role at a pivotal point in the season, with the transfer portal about to open. Can he make an impact? We’ll see.
We reached out for comment as soon as we caught wind of the rumors, but we were informed it was “nap time,” and Coach Will was unavailable. That’s right, folks—he’s a new dad. While we commend him for stepping into such a demanding job with a newborn at home, we can’t help but wonder if sleepless nights and diaper duty are the best preparation for dragging this program out of the dumpster fire it’s been in.
We’re looking forward to our introductory interview with Coach Will No Last Name (see above) soon, where we’ll hopefully learn about his vision for Sam Houston, his plans for recruiting, and—fingers crossed—his last name. Until then, let’s hope he’s ready for the grind that comes with balancing fatherhood and fixing a struggling program.
Good luck, Coach Will. You’re going to need it.
