While we couldn’t catch up with Texas State's head coach, Uncle Matt Pemberton, for a formal interview, he was gracious enough to send us a statement as he continues his relentless recruiting efforts. Here’s what Coach Pemberton had to say as he gears up for the 2025 season:

"Anytime you have to replace your 3 best skill position guys, it’s gonna be tough, but we feel like the guys we have here are more than capable replacements. We’ve got 8 starters coming back on defense, so obviously, we’re gonna lean on them for leadership. Our 5-1 run down the stretch last year was big for us. No one wavered when we were 1-6, and I’m glad our guys got to play in a bowl game for the second straight year. We know what’s in front of us with the loaded Sun Belt West, but we’re ready. We don’t rebuild in San Marcos, we reload. Eat 'em up Cats!"

Uncle Matt Pemberton, Head Coach

The determination, desire, and hustle displayed by Coach Uncle Matt have not gone unnoticed by the national media, including us here at the Saturday Night Chronicle. Coach Pemberton’s unwavering commitment to the Texas State mission and his drive to elevate the program reflect the values of a true leader. Even amidst the challenges of replacing key skill players and navigating the formidable competition in the Sun Belt West, Uncle Matt remains focused on reloading rather than rebuilding. His relentless approach to recruiting and development is a testament to his belief in the future of the Bobcats. It's no surprise that the fans in San Marcos—and beyond—are excited to see what he has in store for the 2025 season.
