Ladies and gentlemen, the second week of college football action brought us more thrills, spills, and a few chills as teams took the field once again. Let’s dive into the key games and notable performances that made Week 2 one for the books.
#18 North Texas (1-0) at Washington State (0-1):
The Mean Green of North Texas, ranked #18, stumbled in their trip to Washington State, losing 42-35 in a game filled with missed opportunities. UNT had multiple chances to tie the game in the fourth quarter, but they couldn't convert. Freshman tight end Nick Coffey had a day to forget, dropping five passes, including three critical ones in the comeback attempt. UNT will have a bye in Week 3, perhaps to reconsider their offensive approach and hopefully teach young Coffey to hold onto the ball.
Arkansas State (1-0) at #12 Arkansas (1-0):
In a shocker, Arkansas State traveled to Fayetteville and pulled off a stunning 45-38 victory over the #12-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks. Quarterback Jaylen Raynor, who had a rollercoaster of a game last week, silenced his critics by throwing for 278 yards and three touchdowns without a single interception, completing 77% of his passes. He also added 133 yards and a touchdown on the ground, showing the dual-threat capability that makes defenses sweat. Malik Hornsby was the go-to target, hauling in six catches for 111 yards and a touchdown. Arkansas State, now riding high, will host UNLV next week.
Coastal Carolina (1-0) vs. Wyoming (0-1): GAME OF THE WEEK
Coastal Carolina continued their hot streak, dismantling Wyoming 63-21 in a dominant display. Ethan Vasko threw for 280 yards, five touchdowns, and a single interception, finding his favorite target Cane Berrong eight times for 129 yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, Wyoming's Evan Svoboda had a game to forget, throwing for 322 yards but also serving up seven interceptions, managing just one passing touchdown in a day that will haunt him for a while. Wyoming will try to regroup as they face #8 Texas Tech next week, while Coastal Carolina will enjoy a bye.
Texas State (0-1) vs. UTSA (1-0):
In a low-scoring defensive battle, Texas State emerged victorious in the I-35 Showdown, edging out UTSA 13-10. The Bobcats’ defense was the star of the show, holding the Roadrunners to just 155 yards of total offense. Senior running back Torrance Burgess Jr. powered the Texas State offense with 106 rushing yards, providing the backbone for their hard-fought win. Texas State will look to build on this momentum when they face ECU next week.
Utah State (2-0) at Texas A&M (0-1):
Utah State’s visit to College Station ended in disappointment, as they fell to Texas A&M 38-10. Grant Page was a bright spot for the Aggies, snagging 6 receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown. Utah State, now 2-1, will face James Madison University (JMU) next week in a bid to bounce back.
ECU (0-1) vs. FCS Northwest:
ECU secured their first win of the season, defeating FCS Northwest 28-17. Javious Bond led the ground attack with 74 yards on 12 carries, while Chase Sowell contributed 8 receptions for 85 yards. ECU, now 1-1, will travel to Texas State next week in search of their second win.
#7 Tulane (1-0) at LSU (1-0):
In a dominant display, #7 Tulane emerged victorious over LSU in Baton Rouge, winning the Battle of the Rag 35-17. Tulane’s defense forced LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier into three interceptions, one of which was a spectacular 93-yard pick-six by Jayden Lewis. On the offensive side, Mario Williams continued to shine, hauling in 7 receptions for 170 yards and 2 touchdowns. Tulane will look to keep the momentum as they host #9 Michigan next week.
